New! Estetic-Sana Clinic offers advanced laser treatments for rosacea using the latest generation technologies.
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory dermatological condition characterized by prolonged evolution and resistance to many therapies. It manifests with erythema, dilated blood vessels, and eruptions. Rosacea commonly affects individuals aged 30 to 50 years. The disease leads to significant skin sensitivity and post-inflammatory sequelae, greatly impacting quality of life.
What causes rosacea and what are the risk factors?
The causes of rosacea remain debated, but it is certain that immune and neurovascular system alterations, along with genetic predisposition, underlie the condition.
Rosacea can be triggered by extreme temperatures – hot baths, sauna, exposure to wind, frost, excessive sun exposure, stress, strong emotions, spicy foods, alcohol consumption, physical exertion, smoking, certain medications, and more.
Types of Rosacea:
- Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea: Characterized by diffuse facial erythema (commonly redness on the cheeks) and dilated capillaries (telangiectasias). Symptoms include burning, stinging sensations, dry and rough skin. This stage is often referred to as couperose.
- Papulopustular rosacea: Marked by the presence of red papules or pustules on a reddened facial background, often accompanied by telangiectasias.
- Phymatous rosacea: Presents with enlargement of the nose (rhinophyma), dilated pores, and oily skin. Fortunately, rhinophyma is rare.
- Ocular rosacea: Includes symptoms such as eyelid inflammation, scleral redness, tearing, and itching.
Each case is unique and requires an individualized therapeutic approach. Early consultation with a dermatologist, accurate diagnosis, complex treatments, and proper skin hygiene can significantly reduce the risk of complications.
