What Is Hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation refers to darkened patches of skin caused by the buildup of melanin in the deeper layers of the epidermis. Pigment changes may develop over time due to a variety of external or internal factors, including natural aging and photoaging (sun-induced skin aging).
Key Aggravating Factors:
- Prolonged sun exposure without sun protection
- Artificial tanning (solarium use)
Internal Causes May Include:
- Genetic predisposition
- Hormonal imbalances (thyroid or adrenal disorders, pregnancy, contraceptives)
- Photosensitizing medications
- Liver and gallbladder disorders, constipation
- Post-trauma pigmentation (after burns, peeling, laser treatments, electrolysis without proper recovery protocols)
- Post-acne scarring, use of perfumed cosmetics or essential oils
Important Note: Hyperpigmentation should be treated only by qualified medical professionals, following accurate diagnosis and assessment.
Self-treatment often fails and can even worsen or expand the affected areas.
At Estetic-Sana Clinic, all treatments are individualized and prescribed only after a specialist consultation.
The best time for hiperpigmentation tratment is during the autumn and winter seasons.
Consultations are performed by dermatologist and cosmetologist Dr. Diana Munteanu-Covila.
